| WAINFLEET ALL SAINTS CHURCH HISTORY |
Waynflete was once a flourishing medieval port and market town, which
was granted its own charter in 1457. The Town stands on the River Steeping and in 1720 there were 77 households.
The Magdalen College was built in 1484 by William of Waynflete to educate
the local boys.
The original church was positioned over a mile away
from the present town. This was closed in 1809 because it became unsafe,
and pulled down in 1820. The new church, nearer the centre of population was opened in 1821 and
incorporated some stonework, the font and the two small stained glass
windows from the old church.
The Walker organ was installed in 1866. Parishioners, over the years
have donated the suspended crucifix, font cover and beautiful glazed doors.
The screen at the back of the church was moved in 1983 to provide the
room used by church organisations and for social events.
Our Mission: To enable people to be part of the worshipping community
and to know God. |
